Zagbox particiatped at World Maker Faire – and congratulations Peter Lowe for winning the Editor’s Choice Award at World Maker Faire a few weeks ago! We are looking forward to having you at Real NYC Market this Saturday!
Zagbox is a line of artistic containers made in the US from sustainably grown wood, which beautifully display and highlight the objects they hold. They arrive flat packed, and rely on clever features cut into the wood to assemble easily without tools or fasteners. Each is designed to be multipurpose, and we encourage users to come up with creative uses for them.
The boxes are designed to ship flat, which reduces shipping cost and impact, and the end user simply folds and snaps the pieces together to form the box (this takes about a minute). To allow the boxes to quickly transform from flat to sturdy container, we combined unique design features including dovetail joints which snap into place with a satisfying click, and “living hinges” cut into the wood, which make it flexible.
We have spent a lot of time carefully crafting designs, sourcing materials, and locating suppliers in order to reduce the environmental impact of producing the boxes and to manufacture entirely in the US.
“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” — William Morris
There are three Zagbox designs, and they share a similar architecture and design aesthetic employing wood living hinges and snap-together dovetail joint construction. They arrive flat packed and are easily assembled and disassembled by hand.
We have been inspired by the example of companies like Patagonia, which consider customers, employees, and the environment in their decisions, and demonstrate that taking care of all stakeholders can pay off in the end.
Because of this, we have paid a considerable amount of attention to the environmental impact of the boxes and designed them to minimize impact through their entire life cycle:
- Made of sustainably-produced wood (FSC certified) and natural shellac finish
- Renewable energy used for production
- Flat pack reduces packaging and fuel to transport
- Biodegradable at end of life.
We hope to improve the sustainability of Zagbox even further in the future. -Zagbox

$100 saves one child
Freedom Ladder–making the world safer for children through comic books.
Freedom Ladder is committed to making the world safer for children through popular entertainment such as comic books. Our first project, “ABOLITIONISTA!,” is a manga comic book that responsibly educates children about the dangers of child sex trafficking and empowers them to protect themselves and their peers. At Freedom Ladder, we believe that an educated and empowered child is the most practical and immediate deterrent to the atrocity of child sex trafficking.
