Answering the call to create: abqjournal / Journal North

Alicia Piller in the Albuquerque Journal / Journal North in New Mexico

Art Bio

“Walking the line of science and history, my work endeavors to reconcile questions about existence. I create sculptural work using original techniques with leather, detailed with found materials. I invent structures that are biological in essence but speak directly to divine energy. The goal of each piece: convey an understanding of the validity of science and the unseen energies. Biological patterns and cross-section like designs were first born out of numerous inspections of my father’s medical books, are interwoven with references from the natural world. Historical themes stem from my love of storytelling, the history of earthly objects, and my degree in the study of anthropology.

I breathe life into constructed components; transforming the new and discarded in order to transport the viewer into a new world. I save 85% of my waste: leather scraps & experimental shapes, incorporating them into each work; what I call art composting. My interests involve experimenting with the re-creation of specific biological cells, diseases & anatomy tied to the African diaspora. I am interested in re-creating small-scale cellular and anthropomorphic shapes, combining these ‘studies’ into larger undecipherable forms; with the goal of linking the subject of race, with biology, spiritual energies, & the universe.” – Alicia Piller

SI Sabato Isabel

SI Sabato Isabel is the brand of unique pieces of jewelry. These are the result of a combination of non conventional materials with new and innovating design techniques. A mix of both manual and handy craftsmanship of transparent and opaque materials, that thanks to the creation process, turn into reversible, colorful, sophisticated, light and organic designs. As a result of this process each handmade piece of jewelry becomes unique.
Caring for our planet, the main goal is to create beauty transforming and reusing materials, into original products.
To reuse is the rule, to convert disposable into a new piece of contemporary Jewelry is the dream.

“NYC Fashionistas(os): for the first time probably ever you can see modern Bhutanese fashion and meet our friend/pioneering designer Chimmi at Real NYC Market this Sat & Sun. She’ll be sharing what she shares with us: ancient weaving patterns, auspicious symbolism, and the huge potential of modern Bhutanese fashion to create sustainable income for rural households across the country. Extra credit to the person who snags the raw silk scarf made with dyes from strawberries which I helped pick at 6 a.m. in a misty Himalayan forest. Or at least go say what’s up and give her gifts to bring back to me. We’re excited for her and it seems Real is as well judging by their FB page AdriAnne, Christine, Eva, Francesca, Caitlin, Evan, Fionna,Alexandra, Prudence, Beth, Matthew, Dana, Dana, Kristina, Michael, Kelly,Keating, Rodger, Chimmi, Alanna”  Thank you Vincent Roazzi, Jr

“Thank you to our team of hardworking weavers and staff for making a successful batch of natural dyed silk and wool yarn.”
