Joan Huggard of CityBitz… an artist, studio, rooftop and Explore

Joan Huggard of CityBitz Art Studio is located in Dumbo, Brooklyn.  Joan is an established artist with many years experience in many areas including; furniture restoration, photography, resin and is actively a stained glass artist.  She is an all around mixed media artist!  I was lucky enough to be invited to her studio to see her work, talk with her and then we explored the area one on one -What at treat!  Getting there was easy and up I went to Joan’s Art Studio.

When I arrived Joan had been cutting earrings out of stained glass – using her custom fit glass cutter by Tonny G. from Manhattan Stained Glass.

Joan also showed me some of her Custom Flasks – creating your own custom flask for your friends, family or co-workers?!  This is an awesome idea!  Here is Project Custom / Prohibition – which took many hours of work and created many design challenges which Joan plans to do many more.  Custom Work is also Available – Tweet Joan for more information @citybitz

Last-minute deals:  Five sales happening in NYC this weekend.

image

We already told you about so many sales and shopping events happening this week. But guess what? The list doesn’t end there. We found out about more deals to be had this weekend (and beyond), and we couldn’t keep them to ourselves. Need to satisfy that spending (and saving) urge? Check back each week to bag major deals.
Select home goods are up to 90 percent off, including furniture floor samples, tabletop items and bedding. Check out hand-glazed clay ceramics reduced from $18–$75 to $5–$22, and alpaca striped throws for $110 (originally $275). 123 W 17th St between Sixth and Seventh Aves (212-372-7706). Mar 13–15, Mar 17 10am–8pm; Mar 16 11am–6pm.
Stop by this one-day marketplace for handmade accessories and decor from local artists. Highlights include Private Opening enameled rings ($55) and Box 185 feather earrings with Swarovski crystals priced $75 (instead of $95). 233 Mott St between Prince and Spring Sts (646-831-5455). Mar 15 11am–7pm.
This office is offering their specialty Diamond Dust teeth-whitening treatment for $50 (regularly $250), with any regular dental cleaning and exam ($180). Frequented by celebrity clientele—Hugh Jackman, Mary-Louise Parker and Usher—the 30-minute process uses a Diamond Dust–infused polishing paste, allowing teeth to be five to eight shades lighter after only one visit. We can’t wait to flash our smiles outside once the spring sunshine (and weather) decides to show up. 128 E 71st St between Park and Lexington Aves (212-288-4455). Mon–Fri 9am–5pm. Mar 13–Apr 15.
Browse this temporary space for quirky T-shirt designs you can doodle on. Each machine-washable top features a graphic made out of special chalkboard fabric, and includes mini chalk pieces and a storage pocket for travel. We’re fans of the women’s unicorn motif ($31) and men’s necktie print ($31). 337 Metropolitan Ave at Havemeyer St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Mon–Fri 11am–8pm; Sat, Sun 11am–9pm. Mar 13–30.
Matt Bernson spring-collection launch
Join this shoe designer and special guest bloggers—Arielle Nachmani and Grace Atwood—for styling advice at Bloomingdale’s Soho. Browse Bernson’s spring collection while enjoying complimentary prosecco and gluten-free sweets from Tu-Lu’s Bakery. Purchase adorable woven peep-toe booties ($255), metallic-and-embossed python flats ($176) and perforated wedges ($249). The first 50 buyers will receive a Tribeca-shaped geometric brass ring ($45 retail). 504 Broadway between Broome and Spring Sts (212-941-7634, mattbernson.com). Mar 19 6–8pm.

Keep Working – Ralph Marston

Keep working

When you doubt yourself and your efforts, keep working. Your creative energy, persistently applied, will soon make the doubt go away.

When you’re simply not making any progress, keep working. The breakthrough you seek may be just one more effort away.

When you’ve enjoyed a great success, keep working. Instead of resting on your achievements, make them even more meaningful by making good use of them.

When it feels like all your energy is drained, keep working. Your determined efforts will create their own energy.

When you’re not sure what to do, keep working. The more you do, the more you learn, and the more clearly you’ll be able to see the way forward.

Life works best when you keep working at it. Keep working, and keep making life truly amazing.

Ralph Marston
